Eric Piolle, the mayor of Grenoble, set Grenoble’s role as European Green Capital in the context of the climate emergency and the war in Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u2018Connection\u2019 exhibition, Maison de l\u2019International.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was invited to exhibit at the Maison de l\u2019International as part of Grenoble\u2019s celebrations as Green Capital of Europe. It was important that the exhibition had an environmental theme. The title refers to the connection between artists from France, Germany & UK and the connection between humans and the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I showed my installation \u2018Dispersal\u2019 which presents the paradox that each individual is unique, yet at the same time humans are just one of millions of organisms that inhabit the planet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eric Margery from Grenoble created a dramatic installation showing how humans rely totally on water for survival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 The third artist, Jan Kromarek from Essen showed work about the importance of trees and human control of forests.   We were given two rooms at the Maison de l\u2019International & at the vernissage the exhibition was officially opened by the Mayor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of my project I asked to do some work with children & Marie-Christine organised schools to visit the exhibition & take part in workshops during the week.  My idea was for the children to study different trees & create a forest on a large roll of canvas by drawing with charcoal.  It was so successful that we filled the whole roll of canvas in two days, so the last 3 schools drew on paper.  The children also used wax to model little people to add to the installation after they had visited the exhibition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also visited two schools further away from the Maison de l\u2019International where very young children took part. Altogether over 370 children were involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was extremely well looked after & provided with a hotel near the exhibition & the Jardin de Ville.  On Saturday there was a flower market & I continued the project with all members of the public who produced a nice little forest on the railings of the children\u2019s playground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diana Bell<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eric Piolle, maire de Grenoble, a pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 “Grenoble, capitale verte de l’Europe” dans un contexte d’urgence climatique et de guerre en Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exposition \u2018Connection\u2019, Maison de l\u2019International.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

J\u2019ai \u00e9t\u00e9 invit\u00e9e \u00e0 exposer \u00e0 la Maison de l\u2019International dans le cadre des \u00e9v\u00e9nements organis\u00e9s pour f\u00eater Grenoble Verte Europ\u00e9enne 2022. L\u2019exposition devait avoir comme th\u00e8me l\u2019environnement. Le titre fait r\u00e9f\u00e9rence aux liens entre les artistes (fran\u00e7ais, allemands et britanniques), ainsi qu\u2019aux liens entre les \u00eatres humains et l\u2019environnement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mon installation \u2018Dispersal\u2019 illustre ce paradoxe :  chaque individu est unique mais, en m\u00eame temps, un organisme parmi les millions d\u2019organismes sur la plan\u00e8te.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eric Marg\u00e9ry, artiste grenoblois, a cr\u00e9\u00e9 une installation qui montre de fa\u00e7on dramatique comment les \u00eatres humains d\u00e9pendent de l\u2019eau pour leur survie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les \u0153uvres du troisi\u00e8me artiste, Jan Kromarek de la ville d\u2019Essen, montraient l\u2019importance des arbres et la protection des for\u00eats.  L\u2019exposition a occup\u00e9 deux salles de la Maison de l\u2019International. Le maire de Grenoble, Eric Piolle, a assist\u00e9 au vernissage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

J\u2019avais demand\u00e9 la participation d\u2019enfants de la Ville \u00e0 mon projet Marie-Christine Simiand (pr\u00e9sidente de l\u2019Alliance Grenoble-Oxford) a contact\u00e9 des \u00e9coles pour que, d\u2019une part, des classes viennent \u00e0 l\u2019exposition et d\u2019autre part, pour que je puisse animer des ateliers dans des \u00e9coles pendant la semaine. L\u2019id\u00e9e \u00e9tait de demander aux enfants de dessiner au fusain un arbre sur une grande toile pour cr\u00e9er une for\u00eat. Le projet a rencontr\u00e9 un tel succ\u00e8s que la toile \u00e9tait remplie au bout de deux jours. Les trois derni\u00e8res \u00e9coles ont donc dessin\u00e9 sur papier. Les enfants ont aussi fabriqu\u00e9 des figurines avec de la p\u00e2te \u00e0 modeler, figurines qui \u00e9taient rajout\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019installation apr\u00e8s la visite de l\u2019exposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

J\u2019ai aussi anim\u00e9 des ateliers dans deux autres \u00e9tablissements scolaires en direction d\u2019enfants plus jeunes. En tout, le projet a touch\u00e9 370 enfants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les services de la Maison de l\u2019International se sont occup\u00e9s de mon s\u00e9jour \u00e0 Grenoble. J\u2019\u00e9tais log\u00e9e non loin de l\u00e0.  Samedi 7 mai, j\u2019ai particip\u00e9 au March\u00e9 aux Fleurs organis\u00e9 au Jardin de Ville. Des passants (enfants et adultes) ont cr\u00e9\u00e9 une cinquantaine de dessins d\u2019arbres qui \u00e9taient ensuite affich\u00e9s autour des jeux d\u2019enfants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
