L’Alliance Grenoble Oxford

The cities of Grenoble and Oxford have been twinned since 1989. L’AGO was founded in 1993 with the aim of giving additional support to twinning projects by encouraging a wide range of exchanges ( professional, educational, economic, artistic, sporting and social) not forgetting the all-important role of twin towns in nurturing friendships.

These are many projects linking Grenoble and Oxford that exist already, while others in the pipe-line. Anyone interested in working on these projects is very welcome to come and join us.

Our committee, made up of volunteers, includes French and English speakers. We organize a program of events which enables members to meet up regularly and enjoy the culture, language and traditions of Britain.

Oxford:

With a present-day population of 150 000 and situated to the north-west of London. Oxford in the 12th century became the seat of the first university in the English-speaking world. The University of Oxford, one of the best universities in the world, dominates the town from every point of view. Occupying the whole of the town Centre, the buildings of its 38 “colleges” are a showcase of English architecture spanning a period of 8 centuries. Its library, the Bodleian, is one of the largest in the world. The library’s reputation attracts more than 2 million visitors a year. Its thousands of teachers, students and employees play a predominate role in the economic life of the town.

Oxford and its region has many institutions of research and higher education, notably the University of Oxford-Brookes and the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus. It is also an important industrial and commercial hub, owing its development to automobile manufacturing, publishing (Oxford University Press) and the tertiary sector.
